What Are Porcelain Veneers, Exactly?

Who Is a Good Candidate to Get Porcelain Veneers on Their Teeth?
Veneers are a highly effective way to transform the appearance of your teeth. They can be used to cover stains, worn down teeth, small gaps between teeth, chips, and minor misalignment of teeth.
To create a sense of consistency and achieve a more symmetrical result, people generally opt to get between 6 and 8 veneers. This many veneers instantly and dramatically improve your smile by restoring many teeth in one visit. Indeed, while most veneers adhere to upper teeth, they can be used on lower teeth too.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
Veneers are very strong and durable, and with proper care and regular visits to your dentist, they can last up to 15 years.
What Is The Process For Fitting Veneers?
Depending on your circumstances (including the number of veneers) it can take several hours to have your veneers installed.
Your dentist will clean and treat your teeth which will have the veneers bonded to them. In this process, some of the existing tooth structure will be lost as the dentist prepares the surface. Don’t worry; your dentist will give you a local anaesthetic and numbing gel so that you don’t feel any pain.
Once prepared, your dentist will need to create impressions of your teeth.
At Proud Smile, instead of messy moulds, we use an optical camera to create a 3D image of the mouth to create virtual impressions. Through Computer Animated Design and Manufacturing, we can make the best fitting veneers in-house on the same day. This means that you do not need to have any temporary veneers installed and won’t have to come back for additional visits to the dentist ( which everyone appreciates!)
When your veneers are ready, they will be permanently bonded to the front of the tooth. Whilst there might be some soreness once the anaesthesia wears off, you will be able to eat using your new veneers straight away.
