Dentures have long been the choice of rehabilitation for patients with no teeth, however they are believed to reduce the eating ability by 80% compared to having natural teeth. That is because they rely solely on the gums for mechanical retention and stability, making them prone to slipping and moving out of place.
What if we could substantially increase stability on your dentures with as little as 2 implants? With Dental Implants we can increase stability of your denture by creating “attachments” on the inner part of the denture, which then create friction to the head of the implants placed in the jaw bone. For the lower jaw we only require 2 implants and on the upper jaw we normally require 4.
Understanding how implant dentures works
Placing implants to secure dentures is surprisingly straight forward. A CT x-ray is required to assess the bone availability and quality. We then plan the surgery using computer software for precise implant placement. This drastically reduces the time in the chair and post operative discomfort.
Implants take approximately 3 months for healing and osseointegration. At this stage they are normally ready to use and your denture can be modified to attach to them, creating stability for your denture.
