Precision Implant Placement (PIP)
What is it?
Precision Implant Placement (PIP) is the single most significant development in Implant Dentistry in the last few years. It’s a patient-oriented implant treatment using a minimally-invasive approach and high accuracy.
By creating an accurate three-dimensional plan prior to implant placement we can reduce surgical and restorative chair time, maximise use of the highest quality bone and ensure optimal implant placement for exceptional aesthetic and functional results.
What are the advantages over conventional surgery?
- Shorter operation time
- Accurate, safe and predictable
- Smaller punch hole incisions, usually around 4cm
- Faster healing, less post operative discomfort and less or virtually no swelling afterwards
- Faster delivery of the prosthesis (usually within 48 hours from surgery for cases of full arch rehabilitation)
- Superior final aesthetics of the crowns due to ideal positioning of the implants planning ahead the final restoration
This type of surgery is particularly beneficial to reduce needs for bone grafts and also for people who are fearful about surgical procedures.
The Digital Workflow
With a digital workflow, rather than relying on decision making at the time of surgery, all the planing is done prior based on the 3D x-rays that we require. Using state-of-the-art software we can digitally place the implants on the x-ray image with nearly 100% precision and we not only can optimise the position but also stay away from important structures such as nerves and blood vessels thus providing a very safe scenario for the surgical day.
Another advantage is that patients are able to visualise their treatment plan in details which brings extra confidence and understanding of what is happening to them.
Once we have done the planing we then send the digital files to the laboratory to produce the surgical template which will be used on the day of surgery to guide the implant placement.
The surgical Template
Used during the surgical procedure, the surgical template directs the implant drilling system and provides for accurate placement according to the digital surgical treatment plan created on the computer.
Our surgical templates are custom milled or 3D printed based on the digital planing previously done. This is the final step on the planing and surgery can be then initiated.
